WOKING has a vibrant new logo to help build a dynamic image for
the town centre as the place to shop in Surrey. The colourful and
bold design, which unusually also works well in mono, has been conceived
by Radius Design Consultants of Richmond with the work co-ordinated
by creative director Mark Hurel who lives in Old Woking. "I read
about the decision to create a logo for the town centre and the
design was created by a member of my team, Paul Chandler," said
Mark.
The new logo results from a competition organised by the Woking
Town Centre Management initiative and was administered and promoted
by town centre manager Joanne Walker. "The competition attracted
entries from individuals and enthusiastic amateurs and students
as well as professional designers and companies," said Joanne at
a prize giving ceremony held at the Holiday Inn. "From all the entries
we selected 50 to go forward for detailed judging and these are
now on display in the Woking Information Centre in Crown Square.
"I was particularly pleased that most of the entries sought to express
a feeling of pride in the town. The judges believe the winning concept
is vibrant and modern and most important, instantly recognisable."
Mark wins a weekend for two at any Holiday Inn in the UK.
Runners up are Kevin Gill of Touch, Look and Listen Design based
in St John's, Woking, who won a Boots gift experience and Suzanne
Zilka of Exemus Graphics in Ripley who was presented with
a DVD player from Allders. The new logo will be developed into a
brand and identity for Woking town centre and will be primarily
used on all forms of literature. The design carries the strap line
'the town centre for everyone and features miniature lifestyle images
within the multi-coloured lettering of the town's name.
Background Information

For those of you unfamiliar with Woking's history, the Martian
invasion from the "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells
was set
in Woking. Exemus' concept takes inspiration from the statue
of the martian that stands in Woking town centre.
